Lamont Sleets tossed in a game-high 28 points as the 1982-83 Racers advanced to
the finals with an 83-68 win over the 2003-04 Racers.
The 2004-05 team led 25-21 early but Sleets scored seven points during a 16-1 run as
the 1982-83 team took a 37-26 lead with 1:51 left in the half. It would lead
39-29 at intermission.
Chris Shumate and Antione Whelchel hit baskets to open the second half, cutting the lead
to 39-33, but the 2003-04 team could get no closer. It closed the gap to 61-53 on Andi Hornig's
putback with 8:07 left, but the 1982-83 team went on a 13-4 run over the next 4:50 and
led 74-57 on Sammy Curran's basket with 3:17 left, effectively sealing the contest.
Sleets finished with 9-of-16 accuracy from the floor and connected on 10 of 12
free throws. Glen Green and Ricky Hood added 16 points each for the 1982-83 team,
which hit 55.4 percent of its shots from the field.
Cuthbert Victor led the 2003-04 Racers with 13 points and eight rebounds. Shumate, Adam
Chiles and Kelvin Brown each added 10 points.
The 1982-83 team will play the 1991-92 team for the championship.
