Popeye Jones scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as the 1990-91 Racers
easily handled the 2005-06 squad 90-73 in the semifinals.
Jones and Greg Coble each had 13 points in the first half, as the 1990-91 squad
ran out to a 56-45 lead at the break.
Darnell Hopkins opened the second half with a three for the 2005-06 team, but
it could get no closer. Ahead 58-50 with 16:38 left, the 1990-91 team put the
game away with a 16-7 run capped by Frank Allen's 3-pointer with 12:03 left for a
74-57 lead. The 2005-06 team could get no closer than 12 points the rest of the
way.
Coble finished with 20 points, as Paul King (18), John Jackson (14) and Allen (11)
also joined Jones in double-figure scoring. Coble and Jackson each had eight rebounds
as the 1990-91 team won the battle of the boards 45-27.
Hopkins led the 2005-06 team with 19 points. Issian Redding added 12 and
Shawn Witherspoon 10.
