Popeye Jones scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the 1990-91
Racers beat the 1987-88 squad 80-66.
The 1990-91 team led only 36-34 at halftime, but Jones scored seven points during a 15-6
run to open the second half. Down 51-40, the 1987-88 team of Jeff Martin and Don Mann
could get no closer than nine points the rest of the way, as the 1990-91 team built a
17-point lead (76-59) on Paul King's fastbreak hoop with 5:14 to play.
Martin was hampered by first-half foul trouble and never seemed to get in any scoring
rhythm in the second half, finishing with just 10 points. Mann struggled with 4-of-11
shooting from the floor but did have a game-high 11 assists. Chris Ogden led the 1987-88
squad with 16 points and eight rebounds.
For the victors, John Jackson added 17 points and 12 rebounds, as the 1990-91 team won
the battle of the boards 32-22. King, who played for both teams, outscored his freshman
version 12-6. Greg Coble added 11 points for the 1990-91 team.
